Spain is another European country that for some reason I have mostly ignored. I had plans to visit in 2012 but ended up extending my stay in Switzerland seeing nothing other than Madrid Chamartin station and the airport in my short few hours in Spain. In 2018 I visited again on a family trip. I had a few hours in Madrid and got the added bonus of getting to experience one of the famous Spanish world series ALCO locomotives, the highlight of my time there. From there it was on to Sevilla, which was decidedly devoid of trains but full of interesting architecture. The railway scene in Spain is not what it used to be, so it will probably continue to be on my backburner list for awhile.
